The Walkmen’s latest album Lisbon has been consuming most of my listening time this week, as well as two gems from Laurie Anderson’s 1984 album Mister Heartbreak. I’m throwing in her classic song “O Superman (For Massenet)” for your consideration, also.

[mp3] “Juveniles” by the Walkmen. From Lisbon (2010).

[mp3] “Sharkey’s Day” by Laurie Anderson. From Mister Heartbreak (1984).

[mp3] “Angela Surf City” by The Walkmen. From Lisbon (2010).

[mp3] “Sharkey’s Night” by Laurie Anderson. From Mister Heartbreak (1984).

[mp3] “Cala Cola” by The Smiles. From Hermosa (2010)

I send emails from three different addresses, and previously I’ve used a custom signature to remind me to change the outgoing account on Gmail. After sending a couple of emails with embarrassing signatures that said something to the effect of check outgoing mail, I decided to stop doing that, and just put some random text in there. I then sent a few emails with $%^%##$%% in the signature file. Pretty lame, and not that much less embarrassing. The problem, I found, was that I was tuning out the reminder. It wasn’t flashy enough.

So, I just constructed a signature file that is a blank space with Google’s highlight text formatting over the space. It looks like this:

The red is flashy and catches my eye and I don’t feel as embarrassed if I reply to someone and it appears at the bottom of the conversation (of course, you can always use the Signature Tweaks Google Lab item) . Time will tell if I tune it out the way I tuned out earlier things but so far is seems to be working, but I figure then I’ll just change the color.

How do you remind yourself to change your outgoing email account? Comment below or shout-out to me on Twitter.
